July 15th, 2024
Dear Colleagues, Community Partners, Supporters, and Friends,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Safe Harbour, it gives me great pleasure to advise you, effective August 1st, 2024, Perry Goddard will assume the role of Executive Director for Safe Harbour Society. Kath Hoffman will remain Executive Director, while she orientates Perry, until August 15th, 2024.
Perry currently resides in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and holds the position of Director of Guest Support and Empowerment at The Gathering Place, an organisation that focuses on wrap-around support for persons experiencing homelessness.
In addition to a background in addiction, mental health and trauma, Perry brings experience in housing and homelessness. He was involved in building flood relief housing in the Northwest Territories, and coordinating housing for First Nations and off-reserve communities in Alberta and Northern Ontario. Perry supported an early “Housing First” project in
Toronto. He has managed a low-barrier emergency shelter and has been a senior policy advisor to the Manitoba government on homelessness. He served as the former Senior Director of End Homelessness in Winnipeg.
Perry’s Message:
“I am humbled by the invitation to fill the position of Executive Director of the Safe Harbour Society. I look forward to supporting the Board and ensuring staff have the support and resources they need to continue their exceptional work. I eagerly await the opportunity to build connections and partnerships with the many community stakeholders who are invested in making Red Deer a healthy vibrant community. This includes Safe Harbour’s many service partners, resident groups and the business sector. With a background in community development, I have witnessed firsthand what can be collectively achieved when we shift our focus away from our differences and focus on what we have in common and our shared needs. To move the needle on the occurrence of homelessness and its detrimental factors, we have to do something different in order to do better, and together I believe we can.”
We value Safe Harbour’s relationships with staff, community partners, funders and friends, and we look forward to your continued support.
Please join us in welcoming Perry to Safe Harbour and to Red Deer.
