The Social Diversion Team

Works collaboratively with the City and the RCMP to respond to non-emergency calls.

The Outreach Team

Works collaboratively with the City Parks and bylaw teams to respond to rough sleepers in our community.

Skilled staff on our Outreach teams:

  • assess to understand the needs of those sleeping outside
  • help them find a safe place to live
  • connect them with the necessary services to support them.

  • In 2022, the Social Diversion Team served 1958 people.
  • In 2022, the Outreach Team served 2091 people.
  • Our outreach teams reduce the number calls the police and visits to hospital emergency rooms

If you are concerned for the wellbeing of someone who is:

  • Experiencing a mental health or medical (non-emergency) crisis
  • Intoxicated or otherwise impaired
  • Requiring transport to appropriate services (i.e. a shelter)
  • Requiring social services (i.e. connecting individuals to housing, health or community supports)
  • Likely to come to harm without intervention

What will the Social Diversion team do?

The Social Diversion team will respond to non-emergency calls for people in distress. Our trained team members can provide the following:

  • Transportation to a partner organization that can provide clothing, blankets, meals, person care items, etc.
  • Supportive conversation and warm transfers to appropriate services.
  • First Aid or connection to harm reduction supplies
  • Connection to appropriate cultural supports
